At first I wasn’t quite sure how to get to the chocolate festival from the station at Versiox, but I needn’t have worried. As well as being incredibly well signposted, the festival acted like a magnet to visitors, so all we had to do was follow the flow. In the main marquee where local chocolatiers were showcasing (and selling) their delights, you could hardly move for the amount of people there to taste, photograph and buy the chocolate. After a few rounds of the “salle” and more than a few tasters, we decided on some things to buy. Of course, the goal of all the chocolatiers is to sell you their stuff, but I reckon you can fill yourself up on free tasters if you’re on a tight budget! Its also great fun to check out the weird and wonderful chocolate shapes and patterns they come up with, and maybe take a photo or two for various social media.

After making our purchases we’d had enough of the crowds, so decided to skip the chocolate sculpture exhibition. The sight of a huge line of people queueing to vote for their favourite sculpture convinced us we’d made the right decision. To round the trip off we took a pretentious photo of our fancy bag of chocolate in front of the lake.

Overall I think the festival is great fun and worth a visit. However the extensive chocolate tasting and huge crowds can get overwhelming very quickly, so I’d recommend retiring to the town’s scenic lakeside to enjoy your chocolate before you start to feel sick!
